AUGRABIES NATIONAL PARK, RICHTERSVELD NATIONAL PARK, NAMAQUALAND NATIONAL PARK AND THE WESTCOAST NATIONAL PARK

DURING WINTER (MAY TILL JULY) AND FLOWER SEASONS (AUGUST TILL OCTOBER)

DAY 1 -UPINGTON – SPRINGBOK (390 km)

Departure from Guest House 8:30 to Augrabies through Keimoes and Kakamas. Book in and spend the rest of the day to see the 6th largest fall in the world. Where the Orange River approaches Augrabies Falls it divides itself into numerous channels before cascading down an abyss approximately 90 meters high with the 56 meter free fall high waterfall. The river continues its path through an 18 kilometer gorge where you can visit two viewpoints, Oranjekom and Ararat.

You can also see the Moon Rock and Echo Corner. There are 49 mammal species like Giraffe, Gemsbok, Klipspringer, Springbok and 181 recorded birds species, 29 lizard species and 20 species of snakes (Verreaux’s black eagles ) and 12 fish species.

After lunch we drive from Augrabies Falls, 280 km to Springbok via Pofadder through the Bushmanland. Springbok is set in a narrow valley bisecting the granite domes of the Klein Koperberge (small copper mountains).

DAY 2 – SPRINGBOK – AI- AIS RICHTERSVELD. TRANSFRONTIER NATIONAL PARK (332 km)

We depart from Springbok to Sendelingsdrift via Steinkopft, Port Nolloth and Alexander bay. On the road to Sendelingsdrift along the Orange River, we will see diamond mining. The Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park covers 6045sq km.

1625 sq km is in the South African side and 4420sq km is in the Namibian side. It lies within a dry and remote area and the landscape is harsh and spectacular. The park is regarded as remote and inhospitable and the only true mountain desert in South Africa. It consist mostly of extremely mountainous terrain with large altitudinal changes over very short distances.

The Orange River splits the Park and is the Border between South Africa and Namibia. To visit the other part of the park you have to use a ferry and need a passport.

DAY 3 – SENDINGSDRIFT – TATASBERG (50 km)

After breakfast we drive to Tatasberg and see the halfmen plants and the Hand of God. We drive through the Akkadispass to the Koeroegavlakte via Richtersberg to Tatasberg.

DAY 4 – GANAKOURIEP (50 km)

After breakfast we enjoy a day drive around the Tatasberg, looking for different flowers and visit the fantastic formations at Kokerboomkloof that have names; The Witches Family, The Toadstool and Queen Victoria. We look out for the Klipspringer, Mountain Zebra and enjoy views over the Orangeriver.

DAY 5 – TATASBERG – HONDEKLIPBAAI (350 km)

After breakfast we drive through to Alexanderbaai, Port-Nolloth,
Kleinsee through the Namaqualand Nature Reserve to Hondeklipbaai, all along the West Coast. We enjoy lunch at Kleinsee whereafter we depart to Hondeklipbaai.

DAY 6. HONDEKLIPBAAI – CLANWILLIAM (300 km)

After breakfast we depart from Hondeklipbaai to Clanwilliam and visit the Kokerboom Nursery at Van Rhynsdorp. This nursery got its origination from millions of succulent plants that were destroyed during the construction of the N7 National road from Cape Town to Namibia. So the owner relocate plants to this Nursery from the Knersvlakte.

DAY 7 – CLANWILLIAM

After breakfast we visit the 5 km Sevilla Rock Art Trail on our way to the Biedouw Valley. The Biedouw Valley becomes a vivid spectacle of Namaqualand daisies, blue flax, pink vygies and other indigenous flowers.
On our way back to Clanwilliam we visit the Rooibos Tea Factory. The Rooibos plant (Aspalathus Linearis) is indigenous to the Cederberg Mountains around Clanwilliam. This is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom commonly known as Fynbos. The leguminous shrub is a member of the Fabaceae family which has more than 200 species.

DAY 8 – CLANWILLIAM – CAPE TOWN (250 km)

After breakfast we drive via Lambertsbaai, St Helenabaai, Paternoster and Saldanhabaai, through the West Coast National Park to Cape Town.

Drop off at Cape Town Airport or Guest House

OR CLANWILLIAM – UPINGTON

After breakfast we visit the Kokerboom (Quiver Tree) Nursery in Van Rhynsdorp. Drive through Van Rhynspass via Niewoudtville and visit Nieuwoudtville Wildflower Reserve.
Depart to Upington. Drop off at Guest House or airport.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch
Accommodation can vary from the itinerary depending on the availability of Lodge/Chalet or camping
