The size of the park is quite overwhelming. The South African side is 9591 square kilometer with a further 28400 square kilometer on the Botswana side.
The two conservation areas encompass two of the three Kalahari eco- types. The south-western part comprises duneveld with its unique semi-desert vegetation, and the north-eastern part comprises Kalahari plains thornveld.
