NAMAQUALAND FLOWER TRAIL
7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

DAY 1. UPINGTON – SPRINGBOK 390 km

We depart from Guest House 8:30 via Keimoes, Kakamas to Springbok through the Bushmanland. We visit Tierberg in Keimoes and enjoy a view over the Orange River Valley, stop at the old water wheel, in Kakamas and visit the Pienk Padstal.
Accommodation: Lodge / Guesthouse or Camping

DAY 2. SPRINGBOK

After breakfast, we depart from Springbok to Okiep, Concordia, and Nababiep for a beautiful view of flowers.
Then we depart to Goegab National Reserve and Hester Malan Garden. Goegap is 1500ha and supports close to 600 indigenous flower species. We spend the whole day in the flower park and have lunch in the kiosk (own cost).

DAY 3. SPRINGBOK – KAMIESKROON 300 km

Depart from Springbok on a flower trail to Skilpads wild flower reserve in the Namaqua National Park. The park is situated in the world only arid biodiversity hot spot. Namaqua is the home to more than 6000 plant species, 250 bird species, 78 mammal species, 132 species of reptiles and unknown insects. This making the worlds most diverse arid environment park. More than 40% of these species are found nowhere in the world.

DAY 4. KAMIESKROON – NIEUWOUDTVILLE 358 km

Depart from Kamieskroon to Nieuwoudtville. Visit the Hantam National Botanic Garden, South Africa’s 9th National Botanical Garden. Matjiesfontein and Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve is about 6000 ha located in a transition zone between the Fynbos and Succulent Karoo Biomes, it also has an interesting variety of succulent plants. The reserve has a breathtaking view over the Knersvlakte, Mountonsberg and Tierberg Mountains, Van Rhyns Pass, Kliensee and Oorlogskloof River gorge.

DAY 5. NIEUWOUDTVILLE -CLANWILLIAM 190 km

After breakfast we visit the Nieuwoudtville flower Reserve it covers 115 ha and includes two vegetation types Tillite Renosterveld and Nieuwoudtville-Roggeveld Clay, Renosterveld on the Dolerite ridges.
The reserve protects a great diversity of flowering plants and geophytes that transform the landscape into colorful kaleidoscopes when the climatic conditions are right.
We visit the flower show in Clanwilliam and Ramskop Natural Garden. Clanwilliam is one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa. Clanwilliams first name was Jan Disselvallei and was changed in 1814 by Sir John Cradock who named the town to his father in law the Earl of Clanwilliam.
We take the rest of the day off and visit the historical old buildings.

DAY 6 CLANWILLIAM
After breakfast we visit the Sevilla Rock paintings, the Biedouw valley with his beautiful wild flowers and the Cederberg Wilderness area. This area is a 65085 ha protected and managed by Cape Nature. This area is part of the fynbos biome and has over 1700 plant species recorded in it and the immediate surroundings are a true gem for both professional and amateur botanist and flower lovers.

DAY 7  CLANWILLIAM TO CAPE TOWN

After breakfast we depart to Cape Town via Lamberts Bay all along the West Coast, visit the West Coast National Park. This park is well known for its birdlife and for the spring flowers which occur in the months from August till September, especially in the Potberg flower reserve section of the park.
The park with the island in Saldana Bay, has been identified by Birdlife International as an important bird area. Drop off at the Guesthouse or Airport.

Accommodation at own cost.
Accommodation can vary from the itinerary depending on the availability of Lodge/Chalet or camping.
